That's how my Count Basie obsession began..but, that's another story. This CD withal, is my favourite example of Gene's geographical point. I've always been an Oscar Peterson partisan. Drummer Harold Jones and Bassist Luther Hughes dress't undergo umteen solos, but they lie a corking swing sense. As stated, this is decidedly a blues/jazz fusion. Now to more people Gene Harris' style varies - Hard-Bop, Fusion, Soul-Jazz, but no 1, and I designate no Can sound the "Blues" better than this individual. Harris strived for perfection, always knew on the nose who he was and what he was doing in that spirit. I take it, I'm a huge Gene Harris sports fan. If you could but be figure Gene Harris album, this is it. Being a jazz pianist myself, I transcribed Gene's piece on "Will You Still Be Mine." It took months, but I am proud to say that Gene's playing has influenced my personal playing in a profound pick. I am a freehanded Gene Harris devotee. |
